In 1970, The Beatles started a two-week run at #1 in the US with “The Long And Winding Road,” their 20th and final US #1. Meanwhile, Let It Be, their 12th and final studio album, started a four-week run at #1 in the US on the same day.
In 1975, Peter Frampton played the first of two nights at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Recordings from these two shows were used as part of his #1 double-album Frampton Comes Alive.
In 1995, Alanis Morissette released her Jagged Little Pill album, which went on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide and made Morissette the first female Canadian to score a US #1 album.
In 1997, Rumors to the effect that Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon could double as the soundtrack for The Wizard Of Oz boosted the already phenomenal sales of Dark Side. If you start the album when the MGM lion roars for the third time at the beginning of the movie, there are many instances in which the album and movie mysteriously seem to sync up perfectly.
