In 1944, The Allied invasion of Normandy, France — aka D-Day — contributed to the victory on the Western Front.
In 1965, The Rolling Stones released “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” in the US; it went on to be their first #1 single, and nearly 40 years later Rolling Stone magazine called it the second greatest song of all time, behind only Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.”
In 1970, Crosby, Stills & Nash released Graham Nash’s “Teach Your Children,” which he’d written back in The Hollies days. The pedal steel player on the song was Jerry Garcia.
In 1971, The Ed Sullivan Show was cancelled after a 23-year run. The show had presented every major music act of the ’50s and ’60s at one time or another.
In 1987, Genesis became the first group in history to spend a full year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the same album, Invisible Touch.
