If you've been listening to The SoCal Sound recently, you have for sure heard The Decemberists' song "Burial Ground". Meloy teamed up with indie veteran James Mercer (The Shins) to write this first single.

Hillary Gordon asked Colin about the lyrics of the "Burial Ground" during the interview, "Well, I mean, it's about death, right? And it's about reckoning with death. But but really, it's about the relationship between these two people. And in my mind, this person, Len and and the person who's speaking to Len and how they are going to the burial ground, it's it's sort of like a safe haven. You know, all these things happening around them. And yet there's a kind of a sanctity and safety in and spending time at a burial ground, you know, and I also think that maybe they're kind of teenage goths, potentially, you know, there's a there's a wide world of who those characters are. And then it just kind of toys with that idea of death and, you know, making jokes about death, you know, the things being gravely held and things like that."

and naturally Hillary asked about the tagline at the end of the song; "and then contracting malaria. That piece kind of got tagged on the and we were playing it live and it needed a, it needed that kind of kicker. And I just kind of sang that. And it was funny."

Colin Meloy of The Decemberists performed 3 songs; “Burial Ground”, “Oh No!”, “All I Want Is You
