Hozier Returns With New Song "Nina Cried Power"

Hozier NinaCriedPower

The last time we heard from Hozier was two years ago with "Better Love" from the Tarzan soundtrack. The last proper release was his eponymous debut album in 2014 so, needless to say, it's been a good amount of time considering how quickly artists release albums these days.

"Nina Cried Power" is the first single from his next release, an EP by the same name. The song evokes the anger that many have felt over the past few years, but at the same time optimism about what can come out of these uncertain times. He sings about past musicians who helped bring change through their music with Nina Simone the central figure in the song's title. Although his voice still boasts the power it did on "Take Me To Church", he includes a vocalist who continues to bridge generations as Mavis Staples provides just as much positive energy. This isn't her first foray into protest songs as she also joined Arcade Fire on "I Give You Power" last year.

Hozier is out on the road with three shows at The Wiltern October 8th through the 10th.

Listen to the song below and revisit our last interview with Hozier.
