Local Music Spotlight Artists | November 2022

As this month wraps up, let's take a look back at some of The SoCal Sound's favorite Local Music Spotlight Artists!

1. Los Angeles-based artist Sudan Archives has recently been popping up on The SoCal Sound with her track “Selfish Soul.” The song appears on her illuminating 18-track album, ‘Natural Brown Prom Queen.’ Sudan Archives, also known as Brittney Parks, has come a long way since signing with Stones Throw Records in 2017. Within the past 5 years, the singer-songwriter and violinist has delivered three EPs and two full-length albums. Her sophomore album, ‘Natural Brown Prom Queen,’ was released this fall to critical acclaim and credits producers such as LA’s own Nosaj Thing and Hi-Tek, who is from Brittney’s hometown of Cincinnati. Additionally, Sudan Archives made her television debut this past September on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

2. The San Diego band Thee Sacred Souls comprises drummer Alex Garcia, bassist Sal Samano, and singer Josh Lane. Their latest song, “Love Is The Way,” follows their debut eponymous LP, which was released earlier this year. Thee Sacred Souls credits their work with producer Bosco Mann, also known as Daptone Records co-founder Gabriel Roth. Besides their new releases, the group was able to play shows this year with renowned bands Belle and Sebastian and St. Paul and The Broken Bones. Looking forward to December, Thee Sacred Souls will be performing multiple dates in Southern California. Due to high demand, tickets remain for only two shows. You can see the group on December 9th at Garibaldina Hall or December 18th at The Observatory in Santa Ana.

3. David Sanders, better known as Jean Dawson, is a multi-genre artist based in Inglewood. His most recent work, ‘Chaos Now,’ was released this past October through Dawson’s own label, P+. ‘Chaos Now’ marks Jean Dawson’s third studio album and features artists Earl Sweatshirt and George Clanton. After the album’s release, Dawson embarked on his debut headline U.S. tour, where he graced iconic stages such as The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood. Preceding ‘Chaos Now’ is his 2020 album ‘Pixel Bath,’ which includes A$AP Rocky, and his 2019 debut album ‘Bad Sports.’ Catch “Pirate Radio” by Jean Dawson spinning on The SoCal Sound airwaves.

4. Known by her stage name, Blondshell, Sabrina Teitelbaum debuted this year with her first single, “Olympus,” followed by The SoCal Sound’s most recent spin, “Kiss City.” Along with her other releases, “Kiss City” was produced by Yves Rothman, who is most popularly known for his work with musician Yves Tumor. Along with an upcoming North American tour with Suki Waterhouse, Blondshell is revving up for her next release, “Veronica Mars.” The song is scheduled to come out next Tuesday, December 6th.
