Mark Knopfler's guitar sound is unmistakable. Not only has his unique tone defined his music (along with his voice), he just keeps releasing great songs. His last solo album Tracker proved to be a favorite here at the station and we're already excited for the new album he announced today called Down The Road Wherever. Knopfler is a storyteller on the new album with tales ranging from his biographical early days in Dire Straits to a sports fan lost in a town he didn't know. He even includes a part of Rogers And Hammerstein's "You'll Never Walk Alone" on his song "Just A Boy Away From Home".
Knopfler said of the new release:
'Down The Road Wherever' is a line from 'One Song At A Time.' I remember my pal Chet Atkins once saying that he picked his way out of poverty one song at a time, and it just stuck in my mind. You get to an age where you’ve written quite a few songs. But 'Down The Road Wherever' seems to be appropriate for me just because it's what I've always done. I've always tried to make a record and also to keep my own geography happening in the songs.
Down The Road Wherever will come out on Blue Note Records on November 16th.
