Music Director Picks #17: The Head And The Heart, The Wild Reeds, Black Mountain

885 music director picks FB33

88.5 FM receives so much music on a daily basis... CDs, downloads, reissues, box sets, cassette tapes, vinyl records and more. Songs are generally chosen by committee at the station, but it's the job of the music director to go through the stacks and stacks with a fine tooth comb. This blog may include major label releases, independent artists, even random submissions for your listening pleasure.

Music Director Picks #17

THE HEAD AND THE HEART - MISSED CONNECTION

Music fans were recently treated to a spectacular performance in LA at The Belasco Theater... it was a bit of an under-play, considering the band will be hitting the road this summer and playing much bigger venues, including a stop at Woodstock 2019. The Head And The Heart came together in Joshua Tree where they decided to shed old skin before writing their fourth album. The writing and recording process continued out of the desert, moving to Wisconsin, Seattle, Nashville and Los Angeles. The new album Living Mirage is due out on May 17th.

THE WILD REEDS - DON'T PRETEND

The Wild Reeds are celebrating the release of their new album Cheers. Admittedly, this incredible songwriting trio (along with solid rhythm section of Nick and Nick) approached this album in a bit of a different way. One thing remains... this band continues to wear their emotions on their sleeves, serving up some of the most raw, emotional songs there are. The behind the scenes studio footage in this video makes for a great fly on the wall experience. It's always a collaborative effort, but for this album, each of the songwriters were able to bring their own songs to fruition.

BLACK MOUNTAIN - FUTURE SHADE

Consequence Of Sound writes, "Space rock is alive and well thanks to Black Mountain, who are gearing up to release their first album in three years. Their fifth studio effort is titled Destroyer is due out May 24th." This Vancouver band has put out a number of releases going back to the early 2000's. Embraced immediately by the psych rock community, sometimes the band gives us straight forward rock, guitar driven gems in an otherwise DJ heavy or artificial synthesizer based world.
