88.5 FM receives so much music on a daily basis... CDs, downloads, reissues, box sets, cassette tapes, vinyl records and more. Songs are generally chosen by committee at the station, but it's the job of the music director to go through the stacks and stacks with a fine tooth comb. This blog may include major label releases, independent artists, even random submissions for your listening pleasure.
Music Director Picks #7
JD McPHERSON – SOCKS
We’ve always appreciated JD McPherson’s laid back style and vintage, lo-fi approach. McPherson recently created an instant holiday classic with his album entitled Socks, an entire album of original holiday songs. Many rockers have put out holiday songs in the past and this year is no exception, but most are covers of classic holiday tunes… until now. Enjoy the title track from the new LP right here. Best served with spiked eggnog.
LINDSAY WHITE – THE HOUND
Lindsay White is an independent musician based in Southern California. She’s been recognized with numerous awards in the past, notably winning the Best Singer-Songwriter award in the 2018 San Diego Music Awards. This fresh release called “The Hound” is the latest addition to a tremendously personal catalog of music. Lindsay wears her heart on her sleeve. Her music will tug at your inner heartstrings.
JONATHAN WILSON - THERE'S A LIGHT
Jonathan Wilson isn't just card-carrying member of a crop of musicians resurrecting the old Laurel Canyon sound, he's also a very talented producer and guitarist. Jonathan lives in LA and has produced records from Conor Oberst, Father John Misty and Dawes to name a few. He has also toured the world with Roger Waters as his lead guitarist. The album Rare Birds came out it March of 2018 and is innovative, psychedelic and layered with interesting sounds and instrumentation. The LP is intriguing from start to finish.
