Phoebe Bridgers has been one of our favorite Los Angeles based artists for a few years and announced that she is joining forces with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus to form the supergroup boygenius with three new songs. The trio had run into each other a number of times over the years as they toured the country and made individual marks in their music communities. All three are coming off of successful albums last year and will release a self-titled EP November 6th. Baker said of their collaboration:
“When we met, Lucy and Phoebe and I were in similar places in our lives and our musical endeavors, but also had similar attitudes toward music that engendered an immediate affinity. Lucy and Phoebe are incredibly gifted performers, and I am a fan of their art outside of being their friends, but they are also both very wise, discerning and kind people whom I look up to in character as much as in talent.”
The three met up in June to record their album in the historic Sound Studios and each member brought a full song and an idea to the table. After a single day of rehearsals, the group recorded and finalized
They also announced a tour together where all three musicians will have individual sets (Baker and Bridgers will co-headline with Dacus will opening) and will likely come together for a few songs as well. In fact, the tour is what spurred the group's formation. The tour wraps up in Los Angeles at The Wilern on November 30th.
