Sharon Van Etten hasn't released a new album in about four years since Are We There, but it sounds like she'll be back with a little different sound on her upcoming album Remind Me Tomorrow which was announced today. Van Etten hadn't totally disappeared from the public spotlight as she re-released her 2009 debut Because I Was In Love, tried her hand at acting on Netflix's The OA and Showtime's Twin Peaks, and worked on a few songs here and there like covering "The End Of The World" for The Man In The High Castle. Oh, she also become a first time mom during her break as well.

We've mostly heard slow tempo songs with more hushed vocals from Van Etten's previous releases but her new single "Comeback Kid" shows a new side. The bass is heavy with a driving drum beat and layered sounds. Van Etten seems more forceful than before on her vocals as well. Whether or not the rest of her new album will have the same sound remains to be seen. She wrote the new album while she was pregnant, going to school for a psychology degree, and right after her audition for The OA.  For this album, she did less writing on the guitar and shifted her focus to the piano, organ, and synthesizer. Van Etten said of the new album, "I want to be a mom, a singer, an actress, go to school, but yeah, I have a stain on my shirt, oatmeal in my hair and I feel like a mess, but I'm here. Doing it. This record is about pursuing your passions."

Remind Me Tomorrow will come out at the beginning of next year on January 18th. She doesn't have any tour dates in Los Angeles yet but are excited to see her when she returns to the road.
