Spooky Mansion Session with Julie Slater
Discussing the new album What About You?
Recorded in The SoCal Sound Studios, interview + 3 songs
The sometimes Northern California, sometimes Southern California band Spooky Mansion has a new album, and Grayson Converse joins Julie Slater in studio for a chat and a live performance!
Spooky Mansion has been featured on The SoCal Sound’s local spotlight, with the song Weather.
The new album was written during a new love that ended turning into a marriage to Converse's wife, which are self described as a record filled with "upbeat, lovey songs"
When talking to Julie about the new album, Grayson explains: “Whether that really encompasses the whole record. It's basically just this big anthem of finally feeling happy and solidified in life and in, you know, feeling like everything is going well. And the whole song is kind of this, this groovy, big, positive sounding song. I don't know, I think that was one of the ones that just it kind of just came out, you know, in a day or two. Sometimes its songs stem from just wanting to include some little thing. And so in this song, in the beginning, it's like, oh, there's no drums, a bass, it just is this guitar thing. And then there's this slam and a big gap, and I wanted to have a song, this big gap where I just screamed something over top, and then the full band comes in. And so it was like, okay, I want that device. And this song kind of grew out of that.”
Spooky Mansion performed 3 songs; “Saturdays”, “Weather”, “Long Time Ago”
Spooky Mansion “What About You?” will be available on October 31, 2024 (Halloween)
