In 1965, The Kinks and The Moody Blues made their US concert debut at the Academy of Music in New York City.

In 1965, Working at Abbey Road Studios in London, The Beatles completed work on the new Paul McCartney song, “Yesterday” on the day before his 23rd birthday; they also recorded “Act Naturally,” Ringo’s vocal contribution to the Help! album, and “Wait,” which was included on Rubber Soul.

In 1964, During a photo session Ringo Starr was taken ill with tonsillitis and pharyngitis just days before a world tour was about to start. Session drummer Jimmy Nichol quickly rehearsed six songs from The Beatles’ tour repertoire and became a Beatle for 11 days.

This happened:


In 1964, The Rolling Stones were met by over 500 fans as they arrived in NYC for their first US tour. The first gig took place four days later in San Bernardino, California.

In 1967, David Bowie released his self-titled debut album.

In 1967, The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was released in the US (according to the Beatles official website, though some sources say it came out here on June 2). Sgt. Pepper’s went on to win four Grammys, including being the first rock album to win Album Of The Year. Rolling Stone ranked it as the greatest album ever, and it’s one of the best-selling albums ever, with more than 32 million copies sold worldwide.
